Located in Sierra County, CA within the Tahoe National Forest, the Freedom Moon is a rich, 80 acre, unpatented Gold placer claim, with a rich history.
The Downie River flows year round thru the 1/2 mile length of the claim. During the Gold Rush, there were many HUGE nuggets, found within just a few
miles.
Formerly owned by Wentworth Tellington III, who wrote & published the book "Gold and A Hideaway of Your Own". This book is based on this claim, and
was then known as the "Deep Moon".
The elevation runs between 3400'-3800'. About 40 acres of the claim is level, with great camping spots, lots of swimming & fishing holes. Beautiful
Rainbow & German Brown Trout can be caught with little effort. The claim is located 3 1/2 miles from the town of Downieville, on the legendary Hwy.
49.  Year round access to the claim is via "Sailor Ravine Rd." and runs through the length of the claim for another mile, where it end at the "famous"
Rattlesnake Trail.
The solid built cabin,  was constructed in 1990 by the Colorado School of Mining, using dimensional lumber, sits 50 ft. from the river, and is built "solid
as a rock".  The cabin measures 12’ X 16’ & the deck measures 10' X 12’.  There is a full size propane fridge, propane stove, wood burning stove, queen
& full size beds, storage & sleeping loft, TV & a VCR.  The cabin is wired with several receptacles & light fixtures inside the cabin, to power with
batteries and an inverter, or a small generator. There is 52 gallon propane water heater at the outdoor shower, under a  8' X 16' sheltered area, facing
the river, which also has a restaurant style stainless steel double deep sink, & running water.
There is a 200 gallon propane tank, and an outdoor cooking area.
Water is supplied via 3” flexible hose from Grant Creek, and reduced to 1" at the cabin.  The newly dug outhouse is 50 ft. away, with a new stainless
throne.
There is also a covered area for firewood, 8' X 12' Tool Shed & a double door steel container measuring 8' X 8' X 23'.
During the summer of 2005, all machinery & equipment were gone through, and in good working order! They were used to process the gravels from
three sample holes approximately 10' X 10' X 10' deep, through the wash plant. This included using the Excavator, large Grizzly, Loader, Wash Plant,
